3A- Saile House
......an urban form of villa eco-house. "The finest design I have had across my desk" Architect Design & Conservation Officer
This eco-house is packed with features; the first thermal storage building in the UK, taking excess summer energy transferring it to insulated foundations for naturally heating the ground floor and due to super-insulation, the whole house.
The whole South facade absorbs energy, as a trombe wall, glass over a black painted dense concrete wall heats up to radiate later at night and pipes inserted transfer the heat to foundations. The air gap pre-heats ventilation air with a mechanical heat ventilation recovery unit so energy loss is absolutely minimal.
The building has a conservatory on the roof and decking for with raised planters for vegetables, having an extended season through natural heating.
There is a row of huge glazed doors that slide back so the inside and outside become one, an emphasis again on the landscape being part of the integrated design. The landscape is part of a coherent approach over-all.
